Position: Analytical Chemist

Location: Rushden

About the Role

Pharmaron is currently looking to recruit an Analytical chemist who is enthusiastic and highly motivated to work at their Rushden facility in the Chemistry Quality Control Department. You will have a sound basic theoretical understanding of a range of analytical techniques primarily chromatographic and spectroscopic.

After a structured period of training the successful candidate will be required to carry out analysis on a diverse range of chemical compounds, generate and provide first line interpretation of the resulting data and preferably be able to defend the interpretation to senior QC analysts and internal Clients. You will be expected to produce analytical reports compliant with Pharmaron QA systems. You will ensure that the instrumentation under your charge is maintained, operationally available, as far as is reasonably practicable at all times, and that there is an adequate supply of materials to meet QC operational requirements. You will have a can-do attitude always looking for ways to support the business outside of your immediate job specification.

Key Responsibilities

1. Carry out quality control (QC) analysis of materials manufactured by custom synthesis teams as required
2. Perform QC analysis of materials on stability as required
3. Be able to interpret analytical results and describe and explain them to a wider audience
4. Maintain accurate and clear laboratory records
5. Maintain QC instruments in good working order and report any faults promptly
6. Participate in verification/validation of analytical methods, drafting method verification protocols/reports, and controlled analysis documents
7. Prepare out-of-specification (OOS) and deviation documentation when necessary
8. Participate in the validation/qualification of laboratory equipment as required
9. QC release raw materials from Quarantine for use in GMP manufacture

Candidate Profile

10. Degree in Chemistry, or relevant experience
11. Good theoretical grounding of chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques
12. Good written and verbal communication skills
13. Computer literate
14. Ability to work with minimum supervision and as part of a team
15. Conscientious and meticulous in laboratory and written work
16. Good time management skills and ability to work to tight deadlines
17. Proven ability to problem solve
18. Willing to get involved with new ideas and initiatives

Desirable requirements

19. Experience as a practising analyst, particularly with chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques.
20. Experience in data evaluation using spreadsheet and statistical tools.
21. An appreciation of quality/regulatory standards and quality systems - in particular the relationship of the MHRA with the pharmaceutical industry.
