Role: Farm Hand Location: Wessex Lodge School, Frome, Somerset BA11 4LA Salary: 12.50 per hour Hours: Saturday: 4 hours | Sunday: 4 hours (Potential for additional hours during school holidays or growth in service) Contract: Permanent, 52 weeks Driving: Full UK Driving Licence required Age Requirement: Over 18s only due to lone working As part of our continued growth, we are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Farm Hand to join our close-knit team at Wessex Lodge School. About the Role You will oversee the care of our farm animals over weekends and some school holidays, ensuring their wellbeing and safety at all times. This is a hands-on, rewarding role where you will make a real difference to both the animals and the school community. You will: Care for and monitor the health of animals, liaising with staff and vets when needed. Undertake practical tasks such as feeding, fencing, driving farm vehicles, and operating machinery. Ensure farm activities comply with regulations, health and safety standards, and school policies. Maintain records and provide handovers to weekday staff. Contribute to the ethos of the school, supporting students engagement with the farm and outdoor learning. What to Expect Outdoor work in all weathers and seasons. Some periods of independent working due to weekend schedule. About Us Wessex Lodge School currently comprises of three sites: Wessex Lodge Primary School located in Kilmington, Wessex Lodge Secondary School located in Frome, and Newmead Farm, located in Maiden Bradley. All sites allow students the opportunity to explore the curriculum alongside a range of subject paths, including the likes of, animal care, horticulture, DT, and forest school, as well as sporting activities. Our students are aged between 6 and 18 years old. Each student has individual needs and, supported by the THRIVE approach, through a proven range of practitioner-led services and our talented staff, we can help to improve life outcomes for every student. The established staff team come from a variety of previous occupations and have a vast range of individual skills, which can be utilised, within this school.
