Catering Assistant –
Location: Newry
Hours: 20+ hours per week
Shift Pattern: 3 days per week, 6.5 hours per day
*Shifts on a rota basis:
1. 7:30am – 2:30pm
2. 1:00pm – 8:00pm

Rate of Pay
3. Monday – Friday: £12.21 per hour
4. Saturday: £17.22 per hour
5. Sunday: £22.34 per hour
Job Description
We are seeking a Band 2 Catering Assistant to join a busy hospital catering team in Newry. The successful candidate will play an essential role in supporting the delivery of safe, nutritious meals to patients and staff.
This position is ideal for someone reliable, flexible, and comfortable working within a healthcare environment.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Typical duties for a hospital catering assistant include:
6. Preparing and serving hot and cold food and beverages to patients, staff, and visitors
7. Ensuring special dietary requirements and allergen guidelines are followed accurately
8. Assisting with the setup and clearing of ward meal trolleys
9. Washing dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment to required hygiene standards
10. Cleaning food preparation areas, dining areas, and maintaining general kitchen hygiene
11. Receiving, checking, and storing food deliveries safely
12. Recording temperatures of food, fridges, and equipment in line with HACCP guidelines
13. Handling waste appropriately and maintaining a clean environment
14. Restocking supplies and ensuring kitchens are well‑organised
15. Working effectively as part of a busy catering team
16. Following all infection control, health & safety, and food hygiene regulations
Requirements
17. Ability to work both shift patterns as part of a rotating rota
18. Previous catering or cleaning experience (hospital experience desirable but not essential)
19. Good communication skills
20. Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment
21. Reliability and excellent attention to detail
22. Must be available for an immediate start
