AMSis a large CSU within St James Hospital comprising a dedicated surgicalassessment unit and 11 in patient wards. We are a regional centre forurology, colorectal, gastroenterology, upper GI, HPB and renal services, aswell as being responsible for the Leeds Liver Unit, one of a handful acrossthe country.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will ensure thesafe and effective utilisation of hospital capacity and patient flow.undertaken under the direction and supervision of a registered practitionerThis will include scheduled and unscheduled admissions, internal and externaltransfers of care.
The post holder will be requiredto liaise with numerous members of staff and wards to ensure there iseffective, efficient patient flow, gather important data for the productionof reports to enable the Nurse in charge and to make decisions on patient movement.
Establish accurate, reliableinformation to allocate and utilise capacity corporately (which can meanbalancing conflicting pressures).

Alarge percentage of AMS patients will be assessed and admitted through theSurgical Assessment Unit, therefore close working with and support of JSAU isto be expected.

Job responsibilities
Collect, collate and report a wide range of capacity and patient flowinformation and report to the Nurse in charge.
Identify and record planned/electiveadmissions on a daily basis, liaising with all relevant staff to plan theallocation of beds to these patients under the direction and supervision of aregistered practitioner
Liaise with staff on multiple wards/unitsto establish the bed count and planned bed availability.
Produce regular reports and updates forthe clinical site manager on availability of beds in hospital.
Support ward staff to maximise timelypatient discharge.
Will be required to assess and makejudgements on a range of operational situations using critical evaluationapproach to solve problems using a variety of solutions
.Be visible, accessible and approachable to staff in all areas of thehospital to ensure good relationships are formed.
Engages actively with Surgical Assessmentstaff to reduce breaches of the Surgical Assessment Unit and escalateconcerns to the Nurse in Charge
.Maintains and promotes confidentiality at all times.
Communicates effectively with clinicalstaff and patients using telephone, email and face to face.
The post holder will act as a role model, for all clinical staff on wardenvironments, for learning and development of patient flow.
The post holder will have knowledge of andengage with audit activities as required.
The post holder will maintainresponsibility for own personal development and will agree annual objectiveswith their line manager as part of PDP process.

Experience
* Previous experience of working in a demanding environment with conflicting deadlines

* Previous experience of working in a demanding hospital environment with conflicting deadlines
* Proven organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload with interruptions and changing priorities
