This role will support patients undergoing investigations into their pathological lymph nodes and work closely with the existing Haematology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team to provide care for patients with both malignant and non-malignant haematological conditions. You will collaborate with the Dorset County Hospital (DCH) Cancer management team, the lead clinician, and the CNS team to further develop the Lymph Node Pathway (LNP) and enhance the patient journey.
In this role, you will deliver specialist, high-quality, expert nursing care and support to patients and their families throughout their treatment. You will play a key role in influencing all aspects of patient care, delivering personalised and individualised care directly. You will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm and a commitment to improving practice through continuous personal and professional development.
You will have the autonomy to deliver high standards of care, using your clinical skills to support patient management, while having access to the haematology consultants and their teams when needed. Collaboration with the management team and senior doctors will ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based patient care.
Main duties of the job
* Provision of specialist, high quality, expert nursing care and support for patients and their carers during the diagnostic period.
* Deliver evidence based individualised patient care according to patient’s changing health care needs.
* To work autonomously and seek collaborative relationships with others across and within professional boundaries.
* To develop patient pathways and be responsible for developing the nursing service for pathological lymph node referrals.
* To provide expert knowledge and advice in own specialist area, ensuring maintenance of clinical excellence and underpinned by evidence-based practice.
* Work with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and cancer management team to ensure that your cancer service complies with the national standards for safety and quality, which are assessed through the National Cancer Quality Service Programme process and actively contribute with work plans resulting from Quality Surveillance Programme assessment.
* Lead and develop (with support) the diagnostic pathway for patients who require investigation for suspected pathological lymph nodes.
* To provide comprehensive nursing support to patients and their carers with a haematological condition including malignant and non-malignant conditions.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
* Registered Nurse
* Post registration haematology qualification
* Chemotherapy administration qualification
* 1st level degree
Desirable criteria
* ENB 998 or equivalent teaching qualification
* History taking and physical examination qualification or willingness undertake
* Masters level qualification or willingness to work towards
* Management or Leadership training
* Advanced communications skills course
* Experience of nurse-led clinics
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
* At least 3 years experience of working with Haematology patients in the malignant and/or non-malignant setting
* Experience and understanding of caring for the Haematology patient
* Demonstrable experience at band 6 or above in relevant setting
* Demonstrates knowledge and experience of undertaking audit
* Experience of working collaboratively
* Experience of interdisciplinary teaching
* Awareness of national political and professional agenda in Haematology care and cancer care
Desirable criteria
* Experience in delivering nurse-led clinics
