An opportunity has arisen for a trauma nurse coordinator to join the orthopaedic trauma team at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.
We are looking for an individual with exceptional communication skills and proven experience working in a fast-paced environment, able to prioritize an ever-changing workload. You will hold the bed capacity bleep for trauma orthopaedics and coordinate the seamless flow of trauma patients through the service, supporting and improving the scheduling of surgery for trauma patients. You will be required to maintain close working relationships with the multidisciplinary team, providing strong visible clinical leadership along the pathway for trauma patients.
Main duties of the job
1. Ensure appropriate prioritization of trauma patients waiting for surgery, both inpatient and outpatient, considering the clinical needs of patients and available surgeons.
2. Work closely with theatres to provide accurate and current information on trauma patients and their surgical management to facilitate smooth scheduling.
3. Discuss individual patients with CoW/on-call consultant to ensure theatre lists reflect patient priorities, matching the complexity of surgery with surgeon and anesthetist availability.
4. Maintain high standards of accurate verbal and written communication, including sensitive or complex information, to develop and maintain effective multidisciplinary relationships.
5. Act as a role model to assist with the development of less experienced staff across relevant disciplines.
6. Develop personal knowledge, clinical skills, and experience, recognizing limits to confidence and competence, and acting accordingly.
7. Engage with patients and their families/carers to ensure full involvement in their care management where appropriate.
8. Coordinate with the surgical bed manager and site team to support patient transfers into trauma and orthopaedic beds, supporting Trust pressures.
