Join to apply for the Engineering Lead role at Barclays. This role leads a team of 15 engineers supporting a large-scale internal platform used by over 1,000 users across Barclays UK, including developers, testers, release managers, RTB L2 engineers, and SREs. The platform provides shared tooling and container-based services to enhance engineering productivity. This role combines technical knowledge with strategic direction and is suited to those who bring clarity, alignment, and long-term focus to support platform evolution, reliability, and security. The role focuses on enabling teams, driving innovation, and building resilient systems.
The position is based in Knutsford.
Responsibilities
* Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions using industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools, ensuring code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
* Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure alignment with business objectives.
* Collaboration with peers, participation in code reviews, and promotion of a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
* Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster technical excellence and growth.
* Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities and protect sensitive data.
* Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
Qualifications / Skills
* Experience supporting engineering teams and mentoring developers.
* Proficiency in CI/CD automation using GitLab and Jenkins.
* Experience with Kubernetes in cloud-native environments.
* Background in building shared developer platforms and tooling.
* Familiarity with system reliability practices including monitoring and alerting.
* Strategic mindset aligned with long-term engineering outcomes.
