Investment & Operations Analyst Bristol (In-Person/Hybrid) | Full-time | Deep Tech | Entry-level (PhD required) | £25k for first 6 months About Us SCVC is an early-stage investor in UK deep tech companies. We back founders developing world-changing science and engineering — from quantum sensors to synthetic biology — that can deliver both world-changing impact and significant enterprise value. We form part of the Science Creates ecosystem, combining venture funding, dedicated lab and office space, and a powerful community of scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs. We’re a small, ambitious team with big goals — and we’re looking for someone who shares our drive, values, and energy. The Opportunity This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-paced, highly mission-driven deep tech VC firm. You’ll sit at the heart of our investment process and our operations — helping the team evaluate cutting-edge technologies and making the fund run more effectively day-to-day. You’ll need to love getting stuck in across the business — from scientific research & due diligence memos to CRM housekeeping and fixing process gaps we didn’t know we had. You’ll work across the full team —collaborating with all partners. You’ll need to suggest improvements, ask questions and make things better, helping us to build and strengthen the internal engine that powers everything we do. This role is ideal for someone with a PhD in a scientific or technical field relevant to deep tech innovation (see preferred backgrounds below), who wants to work across both investment and operations and is excited to grow quickly in a high-autonomy environment. This is a full-time, entry-level training role — ideal for fresh PhD grads or those looking to pivot into VC or deep tech. The £25k starting salary reflects the entry-level nature of the position, but for the right person, it’s a launchpad into a long-term career in venture or science-based startups. What You’ll Do Your responsibilities will flex with the team’s needs and your strengths. They’ll include a mix of: Investment Support Assist in due diligence on potential investments Assist in company valuation and portfolio performance analysis Help manage our deal flow pipeline, systems, and databases Operational Support Help improve internal systems, tools, templates, and workflows Keep CRMs, trackers, and process docs up-to-date and organised Pitch in across all areas — from booking meetings to improving automation Who You Are We’re looking for someone who is: Tenacious and proactive about getting things done Energised by solving problems and making improvements Exceptionally organised and self-motivated, with high attention to detail Very strong with tools and systems – you should be confident using (and learning) a range of established tech platforms, such as Notion & Airtable alongside bespoke solutions built using LLMs and AI agents. A clear, confident communicator in writing and in person Excited by startups, science, and venture capital You have a natural sense of urgency and a bias toward speed of execution. You don’t wait for instructions — you take ownership, make suggestions, and keep things moving. Essential Requirements A PhD (completed or submitted) in a relevant discipline Live in Bristol or are willing to relocate to start work from our Bristol office A right to live and work in the UK Example Backgrounds We’re particularly interested in candidates with a background in any of the following: Mathematical or theoretical biosciences Molecular modelling or physical chemistry Bioinformatics, chemoinformatics, or computational biology Computer science applied to scientific domains Multidisciplinary experience is a bonus, but not required. What We Offer £25,000 annual salary for first 6 months Full-time, permanent contract available Hybrid working (with regular in-person days in Bristol) 25 days holiday bank holidays your birthday off A high-trust, high-autonomy team environment A strong learning curve with opportunities to grow How to Apply Please apply through our online application form, and include a cover letter explaining why you’re excited about this role and why you’d be a good fit. Applications without a cover letter will not be considered. We strongly encourage applicants from all backgrounds and walks of life — especially those who may not see themselves represented in venture capital today.
