Band 6 Midwife - Join Our Team Ahead of Our Unit Opening in April 2026

We are seeking compassionate, motivated Band 6 Midwives to join us as we prepare for the reopening of our maternity unit in April 2026. As we enter this new chapter, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of the service and contributing to a positive, collaborative culture from day one.

Working across acute and community settings, you will deliver holistic midwifery care, act as an advocate for personalised choice, and contribute to the continued development of our refreshed, well-supported maternity team.

Our maternity unit has been temporarily closed to prioritise safety improvements, and reopening in April 2026 marks a fresh, strengthened beginning for maternity services at Somerset FT. Joining the team now means you will be part of:A safer, stronger service shaped by significant improvements

The Trust has taken several positive steps ahead of reopening, including:

* Appointment of five new Somerset paediatric consultants, joining between Nov 2025 and March 2026 (with the first already in post).
* Midwifery and Neonatal nursing teams now working as one SFT team, sharing learning and improving pathways and experience.

This is a special, exciting time and we'd love you to be part of it

Main duties of the job

* Provide high-quality midwifery care throughout the pregnancy continuum.
* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised care plans.
* Work as part of a multidisciplinary team across both acute and community settings.
* Support choice, personalised care and evidence based practice.
* Act as a role model, offering leadership, guidance and mentorship.
* Supervise and teach junior staff and students.
* Respond appropriately to changes in condition and manage emergencies effectively.
* Maintain accurate clinical documentation and uphold professional standards.
* Participate in quality improvement, governance and safety activities.
