Vertex Associates are proud to be retained by one of the UK's leading utilities businesses in their search for a Financial Controller. This is a full-time, office-based role.
About the Role
As a Finance Controller, you will lead the finance function, ensuring the smooth operation of financial activities, supporting daily management and strategic planning. You will handle all aspects of financial management including producing management accounts, regulatory and financial reporting, cash flow management, and developing internal control policies, providing high-quality financial insights to support strategic decisions.
Responsibilities
* Design, implement, and maintain effective financial controls with accurate reporting and actionable insights.
* Ensure finance policies, processes, and systems are comprehensive, scalable, and aligned with business growth.
* Lead budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring clarity and accountability.
* Oversee the preparation of financial reports, including cash flow analysis, budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
* Produce monthly management accounts accurately and timely.
* Manage the preparation of year-end statutory accounts according to relevant standards and regulations.
* Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team to foster high performance.
* Coordinate external audit processes effectively.
* Promote a culture of financial excellence across the organization.
* Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions to ensure efficiency and best practices.
Qualifications
ACA, ACCA, or equivalent qualification with strong technical expertise in corporate accounting and financial management. Experience in the utilities sector is advantageous but not essential.
Required Skills
* Strong knowledge of financial systems; familiarity with Xero preferred.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
* Experience presenting financial data at Board level and influencing strategic decisions.
* Broad commercial finance experience with team leadership and process improvement skills across sectors.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of building relationships at all organizational levels.
