Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Consultant Psychiatrist to cover psychiatric needs across HMP Lowdham Grange and HMP Ranby in Nottinghamshire. This is a full‑time job but we would welcome interest from those interested in working part time, including those who are considering retirement from their current positions in order to take up a portfolio career that suits their post‑retirement needs and interests.
If you are keen to provide mental healthcare to arguably one of the most disadvantaged and mentally disordered populations in the country, then this job is for you. You will be working with a multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals, including counsellors and psychologists, and those with expertise in neurodiversity. You would also have the advantage of working in a polyclinic model with on‑site fellow healthcare professionals such as GPs, physiotherapy, dentistry, sexual health, opticians, as well as substance misuse services.
If successful, your preferred base will be discussed with you, with the expectation to provide colleague cover in other sites in Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire prisons.
You will have the option to work flexibly to undertake clinical administration, management duties and SPA from home.
Main duties of the job
To provide high quality, trauma‑informed psychiatric care within integrated mental health teams in prisons. The post holder will deliver assessment, diagnosis and treatment of people with severe mental illness, personality disorders, neurodevelopmental conditions and complex comorbidity in custodial settings, ensuring equivalence of care with community services.
You will have the opportunity to supervise senior trainees from the regional higher psychiatric training programme in Forensic Psychiatry covering Rampton Hospital, Arnold Lodge and Wathwood Medium secure units and Nottingham as well as Derby low secure and community forensic services.
