Supporting the Area team and the national Natural Environment team to enable the forestry sector to protect, improve, expand, and connect England’s woodland resource through:
1. Providing technical expertise on ecological issues related to forestry and woodland protection, management, and creation across the area. This includes working alongside the Local Partnership Adviser to review and comment on large projects that may impact ancient woodland and protected species, influencing design to avoid or mitigate impacts, and reducing ancient woodland loss.
2. Supporting sustainable forestry and woodland management to ensure the Government’s woodland and tree establishment targets enhance biodiversity, focusing on woodland and non-woodland habitats and species.
3. Building and maintaining a network of contacts within the statutory and NGO ecology and conservation sectors to promote the Forestry Commission’s work and foster collaboration.
The successful applicant will have a passion for woodlands and forests, understanding their benefits to society, the environment, and the economy. They will advocate for the ecological and societal benefits of woodland creation and be a trusted source of sound ecological advice on woodland creation and management.
