About This Role

The Global Medical Director, Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) will serve as a strategic partner and expert medical leader, guiding development, launch planning, execution, and ongoing support for Biogen's SMA program. The goal is to drive meaningful improvements in patient outcomes. As a key member of the global SMA medical affairs team, the Medical Director will help develop and implement the global medical strategy, reinforcing Biogen's leadership within the SMA medical community.

What You'll Do
* Develop and implement the global SMA medical strategy and tactics in collaboration with regional/country and cross-functional teams.
* Lead the planning, development, and execution of high-impact medical activities, such as advisory boards, to gather clinical insights.
* Partner with the scientific communications team to shape and deliver the strategic scientific narrative.
* Collaborate with medical education leads to design and deliver impactful educational programs.
* Review medical content, including publication materials, medical communications, and medical information letters.
* Deliver medical presentations at internal trainings, external congresses, and other key events as needed.
* Represent Global Medical at cross-functional forums, providing expert medical input.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in the SMA community, including healthcare professionals and patient advocacy organizations; develop and execute global KME (Key Medical Expert) engagement plans.
* Manage external agencies and vendors to ensure high-quality planning and execution of outsourced medical deliverables.
Who You Are

You are a scientific or clinical leader with deep expertise in neuromuscular or rare diseases and a strong commitment to improving patient outcomes. You collaborate effectively across teams, apply strategic thinking to scientific and business challenges, and communicate complex information clearly. You thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and are comfortable traveling up to 20% to engage external stakeholders.

Required Skills
* Advanced degree required: MD, PhD or PharmD.
* Minimum 7+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience, preferably in SMA, neuromuscular disease, or neurology/neuroscience
* Demonstrated expertise in developing and executing comprehensive medical affairs plans.
* Proven ability to establish productive collaborations with medical experts and external stakeholders.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong presentation capabilities.
* Skilled at critically analyzing, synthesizing, and conveying complex scientific information.
* Track record of meeting or exceeding objectives and delivering measurable results.
* Willingness and ability to travel up to 20%.
Preferred Skills
* Experience with product launches and lifecycle management across different stages.
* Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate across global, regional, and affiliate medical teams to ensure alignment and integration of insights and strategies.
* Strong project management skills and initiative in solving complex problems.

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $209,000.00-$288,000.00

Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.

Regular employees are eligible to receive both short term and long-term incentives, including cash bonus and equity incentive opportunities, designed to reward recent achievements and recognize your future potential based on individual, business unit and company performance.
