About the General Pharmaceutical Council

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is the independent regulator for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and registered pharmacies in Great Britain. Our role is to protect, promote and maintain the health, safety and wellbeing of patients and the public by upholding standards and public trust in pharmacy.

We are a statutory regulator established by the UK and Scottish Parliaments. Our governing body, the Council, sets the strategic direction of the organisation and ensures it fulfils its duties effectively and efficiently. To support its work, the Council has established several committees, including the People and Culture Committee.

The Role

The People and Culture Committee plays a vital role in providing the Council with assurance that appropriate systems are in place for remuneration and reward (for employees, Council members and others), and that workforce and organisational culture matters are subject to effective oversight.

We are now seeking to appoint an external member who will bring senior expertise and insight to support the work of the Committee. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the delivery of our ambitious people strategy and play a role in shaping organisational culture.

Further detail about the Committee’s role is available in the terms of reference, included in the application pack.

* Senior-level HR or organisational development leadership experience (e.g. board-level HR professional)

* A strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
* Integrity, respect and sound judgement in engaging with people and complex issues
* Applicants must not be current GPhC registrants (i.e. pharmacists or pharmacy technicians)
* Understanding of the professional regulation landscape or experience working with regulatory bodies

Time Commitment and Logistics

* The Committee meets four times a year, either remotely (via MS Teams) or in person at our offices in Canary Wharf, London.
* Additional preparation time is expected ahead of meetings. Occasionally, an extra meeting may be required.
* The fee for this role is £2,000 per annum (reviewed annually).
* Reasonable travel, accommodation, subsistence and carer expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with our expenses policy.

Diversity and Inclusion

We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive organisation. If you require any adjustments through the recruitment process or to carry out the role, we will be pleased to discuss these with you.
