Key Responsibilities 1. Direct Support for the Child Provide individualised 1:1 support tailored to the child’s specific needs. Assist with learning activities, ensuring tasks are accessible and appropriate. Help the child develop communication, social, and emotional regulation skills. Implement strategies recommended by the SENCO, external professionals, or EHCP (if applicable). Support the child during transitions, breaktimes, and routines to promote independence. 2. Curriculum & Classroom Support Adapt learning materials to suit the child’s needs (visual aids, simplified instructions, multisensory resources). Work closely with the class teacher to deliver targeted interventions. Encourage engagement, confidence, and positive behaviour. Promote inclusion by supporting the child to participate in whole-class and small-group activities. 3. Behaviour & Emotional Support Use positive behaviour support strategies to help the child self-regulate. Recognise triggers and implement proactive strategies to reduce anxiety or dysregulation. Provide calm, consistent responses during challenging situations. 4. Monitoring & Reporting Track progress and maintain accurate notes on the child’s achievements, behaviour, and needs. Contribute to reviews, SEN meetings, and EHCP monitoring. Communicate effectively with the class teacher, SENCO, and parents/carers (as appropriate). 5. Safeguarding & Welfare Ensure the safety and wellbeing of the child at all times. Follow all safeguarding policies and procedures. Support with personal care where required (toileting, feeding, medical needs). Person Specification Essential Experience working with children with SEN (ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech & language, learning difficulties, etc.). Ability to build strong, positive relationships with children. Patience, resilience, and a calm, nurturing approach. Ability to follow strategies and guidance from teaching staff and external professionals. Good communication and teamwork skills. Commitment to safeguarding and inclusion. Desirable Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, SEN training). Experience working on a 1:1 basis in a school setting. Understanding of EHCPs and differentiated learning.
