Reporting to the Principal Engineer at one of our modern engineering centres in Staffordshire, you will be working on a range of exciting technical development projects which are targeted to ensure that JCB machines are the most technically advanced, robust and competitive on the market.
Key responsibilities will include:
About Your Role:
- Design and development of high voltage (HV) electric vehicle powertrain systems and controls.
- Software architecture definition within product range. Including system requirements capture and software design.
- Understanding of safety critical systems and the application to electrical and electronics systems design and specification in harsh environments. Awareness of ISO 26262.
- Specifying of electrical and electronic components for use in HV powertrain systems.
- Testing and validation of electrical and electronic components (Batteries, chargers, inverters, eMotors)
- Working with suppliers to develop technical strategy.
- Development of technical specifications, Group Electrical Standards and instructions.
- Carrying out system and installation reviews to known standards.
- Data analysis and simulation of electric powertrain systems (batteries, Inverters/electric machines).
About You:
- Educated to a minimum HND level in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or similar
- Self-motivated and capable of working well both alone and as a member of a team.
- Able to demonstrate significant experience in automotive or Off Road electrical systems design.
- Proficient in the use of engineering software (examples of software package used for controls and or hardware/software in the loop are: dSPACE SCALEXIO, Ansys SCADE, Vector tool chain, etc) and electric powertrain systems/component simulation tools (AVL Cruise, Siemens Amesim, Ansys-MotorCAD, Matlab-Simulink).
- Experienced of testing with hardware/software in the loop and rig systems.
- Able to understand and contribute to the development of machine electrical components, and vehicle harness architectures to suit off road applications. (conversant with tools such as Vector CANape beneficial).
- Have a good knowledge of vehicle legislation and standards for UK, Europe and ROW.
Responsibilities:
- A JCB Senior position - ie. having the experience to contribute to technical projects and bring expertise into the business.
- Technical leadership in the field of electric power systems control.
- Management of junior team members and day to day work activities - (relatively) small team.
- Engagement with supply base and commercial teams.
- Liaison with all business stakeholders to ensure project delivery to budget, time and quality.
