Lead Practice Educator, NHS Grampian – Band 8A
1.0 WTE hours – (Full time - 37.0 hrs per week)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time position of a Lead Practice Educator within NHS Grampian. The primary role will be to cover all the Acute Adult settings within Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, including NHS Grampian’s Medicine and Unscheduled Care Services, Surgical and Clinical Support Services. As organisational needs arise, an expectation exists to deliver at the same level across other services within NHS Grampian.
Working collaboratively with the Chief Nurses, Lead Nurse for Practice Education and Development and the Nurse Director for Excellence and Innovation, the post holder will advance NHS Grampian’s strategic priorities, Plan for the Future and Scottish Government priorities. The role is part of the Senior Practice Education and Development Team and will foster strong partnerships with NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and Higher and Further Education Institutes.
Education is key to workforce sustainability. Robust governance and assurance of measurable outcomes are expected while working with teams of Educators. The role enables the development of learners within the Nursing and Midwifery workforce to deliver first‑class care with evidence‑based practice in clinical areas, achieving a high‑quality learning environment.
Applicants must have extensive Practice Education experience, hold a Master’s degree, a postgraduate teaching certificate and be fully knowledgeable of educational priorities and drivers that inform local educational work plans across services within NHS Grampian. The candidate must ensure robust educational governance frameworks, a strong voice within Practice Education and Development, and innovative development of educational transitional programmes for staff. Enhanced learning and development of teams through NES four pillars of practice framework, strong interpersonal skills, leadership and management capability, and proven professional, leadership, and clinical credibility are essential.
Key Responsibilities
* Cover Acute Adult settings within Aberdeen Royal Infirmary
* Deliver educational programmes and transitional learning for staff across NHS Grampian
* Maintain and strengthen educational governance and measurable outcomes
* Collaborate with national and local education partners (NES, HEIs)
* Drive forward strategic priorities and plan for the future in partnership with senior leadership
Required Qualifications
* Master’s degree in Health Education, Nursing, or related field
* Postgraduate teaching certificate
* Extensive experience in Practice Education within a UK NHS context
* Strong knowledge of educational governance, NES four pillars framework, and NHS educational priorities
* Demonstrated leadership, management, and innovative thinking skills
