Job Summary
Medical SDEC are looking for an enthusiastic Nursing Support Worker who wants to make a difference.
Working Hours
Medical SDEC is open Monday‑Friday, 08:30 – 22:00 hrs and receives referrals directly from GP’s and A&E to facilitate patients’ assessment and treatment the same day. The unit operates a 6‑bedded trolley bay, triage and assessment rooms and a large waiting area. The working pattern is three 12‑hour shifts each week, Monday‑Friday, either 08:30‑21:00 or 09:00‑21:30, with two 30‑minute unpaid breaks.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist qualified nurses to meet the basic nursing needs of patients in your care, working from your own initiative and thriving in a fast‑paced environment.
* Communicate effectively with Nursing Support Workers, physician assistants, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, junior doctors and consultants.
* Liaise with ward clerks on admissions, transfers and discharges.
* Address patients’ hygiene and toileting needs, serve meals and assist patients to eat and drink.
* Take and record vital observations, maintain good levels of stock and PPE.
* Assist with wound dressings, dispose of hazardous waste safely and correctly.
* Document all activities in patients’ notes.
Qualifications & Skills
* Outstanding communication skills.
* Exceptional team‑working ability, warm and friendly bedside manner, and ability to work in a high‑pressure area.
* Previous experience in a hospital/acute setting is beneficial but not required.
* Good standard of literacy and numeracy; ability to document patient skin condition and vital signs accurately.
* Welsh language skills are desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
