About The Role
The role
Gateley Smithers Purslow is looking to recruit a full-time Senior Engineer to join our growing team in Reigate.
This is a busy and varied role providing support to the local and national Engineering teams on a wide range of projects, including structural surveys and structural designs for residential, commercial, and industrial properties. The role also involves providing advice to the insurance sector and assisting with regional frameworks. The Senior Engineer is expected to support the Engineering Line Manager, handle projects within their authority, and provide training and guidance to team members. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a candidate with ambition, drive, and passion for customer service, alongside professionalism and strong interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities
* Use software to develop detailed structural designs and perform hand calculations.
* Undertake technical and feasibility studies, including organizing site investigations.
* Liaise with clients and professionals such as contractors and architects.
* Prepare reports, contract documents, and manage tenders.
* Provide technical advice to clients.
* Obtain planning and building regulation approvals.
* Monitor and inspect work by contractors.
* Resolve design and development problems.
* Manage budgets and project resources.
* Ensure compliance with legal requirements, including CDM2015, Party Wall, and Listed Buildings regulations.
* Assess sustainability and environmental impacts of projects.
* Handle large projects independently with comprehensive professional consultancy knowledge.
* Promote the company's services and the Gateley Smithers Purslow brand.
* Assist in training and developing the engineering team.
* Supervise and support Graduates and Engineers to enhance knowledge and understanding.
* Inspect and supervise construction work on-site, and prepare interim and final accounts, claims, and practical completion documentation.
* Comply with company procedures and health & safety regulations.

Gateley Smithers Purslow is a multidisciplinary private practice established in 1978, specializing in civil and structural engineering, building surveying, cost consultancy, architecture, planning, insurance claims, and heritage conservation. Our team includes Chartered Building Surveyors, Structural Engineers, and Architects operating across the UK within the insurance market. The person
Candidates should demonstrate the following attributes:
* MEng (Hons) in Structural Engineering
* Experience and extensive knowledge of consulting engineering, surveying, architectural & planning practices, supported by awareness of statutory requirements and guidelines.
* Experience in negotiation, supervision, and leadership roles.
* Ability to work to deadlines and within budgets on large projects.
* Strong mathematical, scientific, and IT skills.
* Methodical approach to managing projects.
* Problem-solving skills.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation.
