Offer description

To work with a small team of researchers on the development, pilot, and rollout of an Admissions Toolkit for Home, Heritage, and Community Languages (HHCLs), and to help develop, design, and disseminate a ‘pupil-friendly’ version of the toolkit. The successful candidate will be expected to work independently, managing their own time and workload, as well as collaborate with colleagues.


Main activities:

1. Work closely with Professor Janice Carruthers, Dr Emma Humphries, and Dr Daniel McAuley to design, pilot, rollout, and evaluate the admissions toolkit across all UK universities.
2. Liaise with key stakeholders, including university admissions teams, to locate, categorize, and evaluate current admissions policies; pilot universities and later all universities, to introduce the toolkit, troubleshoot issues, and collect feedback.
3. Coordinate tasks such as maintaining a database of university policies, conducting research related to the toolkit’s content, designing questionnaires, liaising with universities, troubleshooting, gathering data and feedback, analyzing feedback, and helping to develop and disseminate a ‘pupil-friendly’ version of the toolkit.
4. Monitor and report on the progress of the toolkit rollout, ensuring strategies and plans are implemented effectively and meet quality standards.


About the person:

* Postgraduate experience in analyzing complex data and writing research findings.
* Experience in designing and managing databases.
* Research experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis.
* Strong belief in the importance and value of languages.
* Basic understanding of undergraduate admissions processes in UK universities.
* Understanding of the UK context of home, heritage, and community languages teaching and assessment.
* Experience working both independently and as part of a team.
* Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
* Strong problem-solving skills.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Understanding of the A-level curricula in languages.

This is a part-time (0.3 FTE), 3-year fixed-term position. Fixed-term contracts are initially for the stated period but may be renewed or made permanent depending on funding availability.
