Job Description
You’ll sit at the heart of our work to transform our planning and regulation of the water industry to improve the water environment.

We’re seeking an innovative individual to support the Environment Agency’s efforts to reduce water industry pollution through annual Pollution Incident Reduction Plans (PIRPs) and longer-term planning frameworks. Your coordinated management will deliver significant environmental benefits.
Responsibilities:
* Develop legislation and statutory guidance with Defra, collaborating with internal teams.
* Engage with water companies and stakeholders to develop and produce statutory guidance.
* Build and maintain relationships with national and operational colleagues.
* Support the consultation process for new statutory guidance.
* Provide governance updates and develop internal guidance and training.
You will work with senior managers, legal services, operations, communications, finance, and business planning teams. You should be proactive, communicate effectively, and work independently while maintaining team and customer engagement.
The Team
You will be part of the Water Quality Assets Team within Operation Catchment Services, focusing on collaboration with Defra, water companies, and stakeholders. Our dispersed team collaborates across technical and project teams nationwide. The role offers flexible location options, with some travel and overnight stays possible.
Experience and Skills:
* Knowledge of water quality, environmental legislation, wastewater regulation, and PIRPs.
* Experience in partnership building and stakeholder engagement.
* Ability to articulate business needs and understand sector-specific concepts.
* Self-motivated, collaborative, and result-oriented.
* Problem-solving skills and ability to identify emerging issues.
* Experience working with Defra or other government departments is advantageous.
