Our work involves engagement with a wide range of people and organisations, from small landowners and wood businesses to large corporations and public bodies. We are seeking a dynamic individual who learns quickly to provide technical support to our Woodland Officers, Woodland Creation Officers, and Field Managers. The post holder will be required to:
1. Casework Facilitation: Provide technical support to North West and West Midlands Field Teams to help optimise their skills and knowledge, including:
* Preparing electronic Forestry Commission case files on the local network, including SharePoint.
* Downloading applications for various schemes.
* Working with National Office on scheme changes and communicating updates to field teams.
* Preparing template documentation for Field Teams.
* Supporting Woodland Officers in consultations with statutory consultees on schemes such as Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA).
* Maintaining a 'rolling' progress report including local trackers on all casework for Field Managers and supporting uploads of approved case files.
* Creating local reports to meet operational needs.
* Maintaining a year-to-date report for Area Directors and Operations Managers.
* Updating and auditing local trackers to ensure data accuracy during the grant lifecycle.
1. Support the field team with updates to Forester GIS (the Forestry Commission internal mapping system).
2. Assist with updates to national regulations and process changes.
3. Prepare files for Felling License and Restocking Notice compliance inspections to support Woodland Officers and meet deadlines.
4. Assist in reviewing and reorganizing electronic filing systems for grants and regulations.
5. Provide basic administrative support, including handling queries from the public regarding tree felling and licensing.
While most of the work is administrative, this role offers an opportunity to learn about how trees, woods, and forestry contribute to environmental, social, and economic benefits, and how government supports these efforts.
