Overview
Bolton School is seeking an experienced, hands-on Residential Manager to join the team at Patterdale Hall, our adventure learning centre on Lake Ullswater, 14 miles from Penrith. This key management role oversees residential operations including accommodation, catering, and office functions, ensuring guests are safe, comfortable, and well cared for. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Patterdale Hall and the Activities Manager, leading by example to foster a positive, respectful, and solution-focused culture. The residential manager will live on site and cover the centre's on-call requirements, ensuring that should there be a rare issue overnight, customers have a first point of contact, emergency and first aid support. The role holder is also responsible for maintaining the security of the site. A comfortable apartment is provided free of charge inclusive of rates and bills (suitable for a couple or small family; pets considered). It may be possible for a partner or spouse to also be employed at the centre.
Responsibilities
* Lead and manage residential operations including accommodation, catering, and office functions to ensure a safe, welcoming environment for guests.
* Live on site and participate in on-call duties to respond to overnight issues with first point of contact, emergency and first aid support.
* Maintain site security and oversee day-to-day operations in collaboration with the Director of Patterdale Hall and the Activities Manager.
* Provide strong catering skills, including ability to cook for up to 80 guests and provide cover for the cook when needed; work with established menus while welcoming fresh ideas.
* Demonstrate successful management experience in the hospitality sector, including performance reviews, forward planning, and rostering of staff.
* Foster a positive, respectful, and solution-focused culture and lead by example.
Qualifications
* Proven experience in hospitality management or a similar leadership role.
* Strong catering skills with the ability to cook for up to 80 guests and cover for the cook as needed.
