As this post is part‑time, the salary will be pro‑rata.

Key responsibilities: The post holder will provide input to address the psychological needs of people with learning disabilities who present with complex mental health difficulties and/or significant behaviours that challenge. The role involves collaborative working with multidisciplinary colleagues within a Positive Behaviour Support framework, promoting a trauma‑informed and psychologically focused approach to care in our inpatient learning disability services. Audit, research, and evaluation will also be encouraged and supported.

Band 8A Applied Psychologist – Learning Disabilities Psychology Service, NHS Lothian

We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent Band 8A full time Applied Psychologist within the Learning Disabilities Psychology Service in NHS Lothian. You will be based in our specialist learning disability inpatient services, where you will provide input to address the psychological needs of people with learning disabilities who present with complex mental health difficulties and/or significant behaviours that challenge. The post holder will focus on the William Fraser Centre (Royal Edinburgh Hospital). The role will entail collaborative working with multidisciplinary colleagues within a Positive Behaviour Support framework, as well as promoting a trauma‑informed and psychologically‑focused approach to care in our inpatient learning disability services. Audit, research, and evaluation will also be strongly encouraged and supported in this role.

We are looking for an applied psychologist who is passionate about the rights of people with a learning disability, and can display the skills and creativity to ensure psychological approaches are accessible to a group of service users with highly complex needs. The post provides a range of opportunities for service development, quality improvement, and implementation of MDT training and consultation. As such it is an excellent opportunity for those with a keen interest in developing their skills in systemic work and consultation models.
