Job Description

The Digital Buildings System Engineer is responsible for managing the complete process of onboarding and integrating diverse building management systems (BMS), IoT devices, and facility management solutions into a designated cloud platform. This role is platform‑agnostic, designed to work across various hardware and software ecosystems, ensuring seamless data integration and compatibility. Leveraging expertise in building automation technologies and communication protocols, the engineer connects disparate systems regardless of brand or manufacturer, enabling secure and optimized data flow for real‑time analytics, remote monitoring, and enhanced operational efficiency.

In this highly technical role, you will collaborate with global teams in IT, security, networking, and infrastructure to deliver IoT and cloud‑based solutions for a global office portfolio. You’ll demonstrate adaptability by learning and working across multiple cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and diverse BMS and IoT systems. Success requires a fast learner with strong communication skills, able to respond to shifting priorities and make informed decisions quickly, even with limited information. This role supports digital transformation for smart buildings, creating data‑driven, future‑ready facility management solutions.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities for this role include:

* Building System Integration: Assess and analyze existing building systems, including BMS, HVAC, lighting, energy, and IoT devices. Map and document building systems architecture to ensure compatibility with cloud migration strategies.
* Cloud Onboarding & Configuration: Configure cloud infrastructure to receive and process data from various building systems. Develop and implement data flow protocols from on‑premises building systems to cloud platforms, ensuring data quality and integrity. Work with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) to set up required services, storage, and data processing pipelines.
* Device Qualification and Testing: Testing, validating, and troubleshooting application drivers across a range of IoT devices and gateways. Collaborating with device manufacturers to support driver development, improve compliance, and resolve integration issues. Managing and maintaining devices in an IoT testing lab, including physical installation, setup, configuration, and lifecycle management. Supporting MSIs with deployment of compliant solutions and onboarding of building systems to Cloud Platforms. Working with various tools and platform developers to identify defects, suggest improvements, and support feature validation.
* Data Management & Security: Ensure compliance with cybersecurity and data privacy policies in data transfer and cloud storage. Implement encryption, authentication, and access control measures to protect building and operational data.
* Data Analytics and Reporting: Analyze system data to generate insights on performance, sustainability, and operations. Prepare detailed reports on building operations for stakeholders. Preferred knowledge of Apps Scripts.
* Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with IT, facility management, and operations teams to understand building system requirements and constraints. Provide technical support and training to on‑site staff on cloud‑based building management tools.
* Testing & Troubleshooting: Conduct pre‑ and post‑onboarding testing to validate data integrity and system performance. Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to data transmission, system compatibility, and network connectivity.
* Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of onboarding processes, system configurations, and cloud settings. Generate regular reports on onboarding status, system performance, and key metrics.
* FPC Responsibilities: Represent FPC in a professional manner internally and externally, and achieve a high level of customer satisfaction for all work performed. Be an effective Digital Building Services team member, communicating with colleagues and working collectively to contribute to the development of Digital Buildings Services Group and the FPC business as a whole. Report to line manager, acting in accordance with their requests and direction and those of FPC management. Manage own workload, communicating and escalating any issues to line manager accordingly. Act in accordance with all FPC employment policies and procedures, including FPC Employee Handbook, Health & Safety and Time and Expenses Reporting. Carry out any other duties reasonably requested by FPC Management.

* Bachelor’s degree in Controls Engineering or a related field.
* Experience with BMS systems such as Niagara, Delmatic, Delta, or LoRaWAN. Certifications in these are beneficial.
* Cloud platform expertise in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, including relevant cloud services such as data storage, IoT hubs. Certifications in these platforms are a plus.
