Part Time Health Care Assistant - GP Practice 12 hrs per week
Winterton Medical Practice are looking to recruit a highly motivated, enthusiastic & resilient Health Care Assistant to join our practice nursing team. Duties to include Phlebotomy, INR, ECG's, BPs & Health Checks.
Hours also to include working as a health care assistant within our surgical unit, assisting the consultant and theatre nurse with surgical lists.
Training will be provided as part of personal professional development.
The role is a part time role of 12 hours per week, to be worked on Wednesday and Friday each week. (NB: Friday shift will be late afternoon/early evening finish time on occasion, sometimes working up to 8pm)
Main duties of the job
The HCA role will be based over two practices, at Winterton Medical Practice and our branch site at Burton Upon Stather. This role will also work within our Winterton Surgical Unit.
Previous experience working in a healthcare setting as a health care assistant is essential involving recent phlebotomy experience. Applicants must also hold level 2 qualifications in English and Maths (GCSE Grade A-C). Intermediate IT skills are also required.
Flexibility, good team working skills, coupled with the ability to work efficiently unsupervised is essential, along with the desire to deliver an outstanding patient experience.

This role will integrate with a well established nursing and health care assistant team over both practices to offer support to the wider clinical team. The role will also support our surgical unit team.
We are a rural GMS training practice caring for 10,000 patients, half dispensing, a provider of surgical services and a high QOF achiever. Staff including: GPs / Administrators/ Secretaries/ Receptionists/ Dispensers/ Pharmacists/ Nurse Practitioners/ Surgical Unit Staff/ Practice Nurses/ HCA's/ Cleaners and Apprentices.

JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Health Care Assistant(Treatment Room & Theatre)
ROLE: To assist the doctors and nursing team in providing effective care for the practice population.
ACCOUNTABLE TO: The Partners
The post holder will be responsible for carrying out tasks as requested by the doctors or nursing team after receiving appropriate training. The following tasks will not be undertaken until the post holder's competency has been assessed by the practice nurse and documented.
KEY TASKS Treatment Room HCA
Clinical
1. Take intravenous blood samples from patients as directed by the doctor.
2. Check stock levels and expiry dates of drugs and supplies in treatment room as directed by the practice nurses or practice manager.
3. Ensure adequate cleaning or disposal of equipment.
4. Assist patients to prepare for examination by the doctor, including undressing/dressing. (Chaperone)
5. Keep accurate and contemporaneous electronic patient records for each patient contact.
6. Ability to be flexible and provide holiday/sickness cover.
7. Undertake ECGs.
8. Undertake Spirometry.
9. Perform New Patient Registration Examinations for new patients registering at the practice.
10. Take Blood Pressure / Pulse readings for patients on behalf of the clinician.
11. Undertake NHS Health Checks.
12. Undertake Diabetic Foot Checks.
13. Baby Checks.
14. INR Point of Care Testing.
15. Teledermatology - Organise pictures and referral.
16. Urine Checks.
Administrative
1. Keep accurate and contemporaneous electronic patient records for each patient contact.
2. Be aware of, and work in accordance with, all practice policies and protocols relevant to nursing.
3. Help to identify their own training needs and actively participate in any training identified as being necessary by their manager or employer.
4. Attend regular staff meetings and maintain adequate communication.
5. Participate in staff development and performance review.
6. Report to Practice Manager any complaint, accidents or untoward incident.
7. Be aware of, and work in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, thereby working in a safe efficient manner.
8. Adhere to the uniform policy of the practice, always having a neat and tidy appearance.
9. Work contracted hours as per the duty rota and extra hours by mutual agreement to meet the demands of the practice.
10. Perform their duties in a calm, professional and competent manner.
11. Follow up patient DNAs in secondary care.
12. Replenish consultation room of stock and check expiry dates.
KEY TASKS - Surgical Unit Health Care Assistant
The post holder will:
1. Ensure adequate cleaning of equipment after each patient/session along with theatre nurse.
2. Provide support for and ensure the safety of patients pre and post operatively.
3. Record Blood Pressure measurements.
4. Ensure adequate monitoring of patients undergoing surgical procedures and documentation of nursing care given.
5. Administer relevant postoperative care and ensure the patient is given relevant information about after care prior to discharge.
6. Ensure completion of relevant documentation both written and electronic for each patient episode including consent forms.
7. Put away equipment used and leave the theatre environment safe and socially clean after each list along with theatre nurse.
8. Prepare the environment and equipment necessary for a given list of surgical procedures along with theatre nurse.
9. Assist with the post operative observation and monitoring of patients following surgery.
10. Perform any other tasks as delegated by the management team.
11. Be aware of, and work in accordance with, all practice policies and protocols relevant to your role.
12. Help to identify own training needs and actively participate in any training identified as being necessary by their manager or employer.
