Social Worker – Duty and Assessment Team (Sponsorship Available)
About the Role
East Sussex County Council is seeking a Social Worker to join its Duty and Assessment service. This team undertakes family assessments, Section 47 enquiries, private fostering assessments, and assessments of homeless young people aged 0–19. The work is short-term, with longer-term cases transferred to Family Support and Youth Support teams.
You will engage with children and families using creativity, compassion, and authority to build relationships and overcome resistance. The role requires strong assessment skills, knowledge of legal frameworks, and the ability to maintain professional boundaries in complex situations.
Key Responsibilities
* Undertake family assessments, Section 47 enquiries, and private fostering assessments
* Assess homeless young people and provide short-term interventionsilig
* Develop effective plans based on thorough assessments
* Engage with children and families in challenging situations
* Transfer longer-term cases to appropriate support teams
* Maintain accurate records and comply with safeguarding policies
Candidate Requirements
* Qualified Social Worker with registration
* Experience working directly with children and families
* Experience completing assessments and developing effective plans
* Knowledge of legal and policy frameworks underpinning social work practice
* Ability to communicate effectively and maintain professional boundaries
* Experience in diverse or complex social work environments
Compensation and Benefits
* Salary/Pay: £44,120–£50,435 per annum (includes time-limited market supplement, subject to review July 2026)
* Full-time, 37 hours per week
