Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Information Services Director, this technical support level position encompasses network and systems administrator duties. It provides technical support for physical and virtual servers, grid infrastructure, enterprise backup and recovery, disaster planning, cybersecurity, telecommunications, township‑wide end‑user service, Microsoft 365 administration, and other information services functions.
Essential Job Functions, Duties and Responsibilities
* Manage and maintain the township’s network infrastructure to ensure reliable operation, optimal performance, security, and availability, including physical and virtual server (VMware) environments.
* Diagnose and troubleshoot system and network issues, run diagnostics, document problems and resolutions, and assess impact.
* Monitor systems and network performance, taking corrective actions to prevent downtime and disruptions, covering LAN, WAN, and wireless infrastructure.
* Apply regular system updates and patches to ensure network stability, security, and compliance.
* Perform and monitor regular server data backups, test restore procedures, and maintain disaster‑recovery readiness.
* Administer network functions such as Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy Management, Endpoint Protection, VMware, Veeam, Cisco systems, and Microsoft SQL.
* Support cybersecurity initiatives and maintain related functions.
* Perform systems administration for multiple computer management systems across all township departments.
* Ensure that all information systems and networks conform to internal standards, external accrediting agency standards, regulatory requirements, and legal obligations.
* Handle network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, and other devices.
* Implement new network hardware and systems to increase device utilization and performance.
* Collaborate with information services staff, other township departments, and vendors on network and system matters.
* Provide end‑user support across all departments, addressing network and computer‑related concerns promptly.
* Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices through research, conferences, and workshops.
* Review new equipment and software offerings, recommending purchases and preparing statistical analyses and reports.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications
* At least 4 years of proven professional experience in a technical IT role, preferably as a Network Systems Administrator.
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (preferred).
* Thorough knowledge of network principles, protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls), and telephone communications.
* Strong background in disaster‑recovery implementation, testing, and procedures.
* Comprehensive knowledge of computer applications, hardware, and software nomenclature.
* Proficiency in current network tools for analysis, reporting, and data categorization.
* Experience with Windows Server and desktop operating systems.
* Experience with Microsoft Windows Active Directory and Group Policy Management.
* Experience with endpoint protection, VMware, Cisco devices, Microsoft Windows, and SQL.
* Experience with Microsoft 365 environment.
* Experience with systems administration across multiple computer management systems.
* Ability to automate or script tasks (e.g., PowerShell).
* Strong technical problem‑solving skills.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
* Valid driver’s license.
* Pass a fingerprint‑based background check for access to secure locations.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment with occasional travel to other sites. When visiting parks or other locations, the employee may be required to walk on uneven surfaces, be exposed to all weather conditions, dust, pollen, and mechanical hazards. Server and equipment rooms may have higher noise levels. Extended hours, evenings, weekends, or out‑of‑town travel may be required.
Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate loads; bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and climb ladders; operate office equipment with repetitive hand movements; and drive to other locations using various modes of transportation.
Supplemental Information
Salary range: $80,000 to $87,000, depending on experience and qualifications. The township offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a 15% employer contribution to the retirement plan, medical, dental, vision, life, AD&D, disability, and more.
