The Role As a Shift Engineer at our paper manufacturing site, you will play a key role in keeping our production lines running smoothly and safely. Working as part of a skilled team, you'll carry out both planned and reactive maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and drive improvements to equipment performance and reliability. This is a hands-on role where your technical expertise will directly support production efficiency and quality. Main Duties & Responsibilities Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production equipment to minimise downtime. Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, diagnose faults, and complete effective repairs. Perform both mechanical and electrical maintenance on a wide range of plant and machinery. Support continuous production by ensuring machinery operates safely, efficiently, and reliably. Record all maintenance activity accurately in line with company systems and compliance requirements. Work closely with production teams to identify recurring issues and recommend long-term solutions. Assist with installation, commissioning, and testing of new equipment or modifications. Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health, safety, and environmental standards. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, focusing on reliability, cost reduction, and efficiency gains. Provide technical support and guidance to operators where required. Participate in shift handovers, ensuring clear communication of ongoing issues and completed work. Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment within engineering workshops and on the production floor. Your job title does not limit your duties and the Company may require you from time to time to undertake any other duties within your capability. What We Are Looking For Strong mechanical and/or electrical maintenance skills
Ability to diagnose and repair faults on production machinery
Good understanding of Health & Safety procedures (LOTO, risk assessments, COSHH)
Proven experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment
Hands-on experience with both planned and reactive maintenance
Experience working shifts and responding quickly to breakdowns
A time-served engineering apprenticeship (mechanical, electrical, or multi-skilled)
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
18th Edition qualification (for electrical bias roles)
