An exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapists to work within Dorset Combined Youth Justice Service. This role could be full-time or two part-time posts, depending on interview outcomes. The position may serve as a progression role, with initial duties within Band 6 competencies for the first six months.
You will work at universal, targeted, and specialist levels supporting young people accessing the Youth Justice Service. Responsibilities include working with children and young people at risk of exclusion, their families, and schools. The role involves direct assessment and intervention, developing training packages for professionals, and collaborating with colleagues within Youth Justice and the wider team to support young people and their families.
You will join a small, established multidisciplinary health team working within the wider Youth Justice Service to support the physical, social, and emotional health needs of young people. You will contribute to a holistic understanding of each young person's strengths and needs and help formulate support plans.
You will also be part of the broader team of Speech & Language Therapists across Dorset, working closely with other professionals. The role offers opportunities to contribute to service development and audit.
Main duties of the job
1. Person-Centred Care: Provide high-quality, person-centred care that considers safety, privacy, and dignity.
2. Support for Vulnerable Young People: Work with children and young people who have experienced trauma, social, emotional, or mental health needs, or neurodiversity.
3. Specialist Interventions: Deliver assessments, treatments, and manage caseloads as part of a multidisciplinary team.
4. Expert Advice: Offer specialist guidance on management and care of service users.
5. Programmes of Care: Develop and oversee specialist programmes for professionals to deliver.
6. Health Improvement: Plan, implement, and review health promotion activities in various settings.
7. Supervision and Training: Provide supervision, mentorship, and clinical support to students and practitioners.
This is a fixed-term role, offered on a secondment basis for current NHS staff, pending permission from your employer.
