The role
As an Engineering Design Manager, you’ll be at the heart of some of the UK’s most critical engineering projects. This is a unique opportunity to lead the technical delivery of complex design solutions within safety-critical facilities, supporting both nuclear and non-nuclear assets. You’ll be part of a growing and transforming team, helping to shape the future of engineering at Devonport.
Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
1. Leading the technical delivery of engineering projects from concept to completion
2. Managing internal and external resources to meet project demands
3. Ensuring design outputs meet safety, quality, budget, and schedule requirements
4. Supporting the development of structured design processes for regulated environments
5. Acting as the single point of contact for technical authority on assigned projects.
You'll be working full-time, 35 hours per week. This role is a hybrid role with 2 days per week based onsite at our Devonport Royal Dockyard site.
Essential experience of the Engineering Design Manager:
6. Strong technical background with excellent stakeholder management skills
7. Minimum 5 years’ experience in engineering, construction, or infrastructure
8. Proven understanding of the design lifecycle and problem-solving approaches
9. Experience designing for safety-critical applications in regulated industries
Qualifications for the Engineering Design Manager:
10. Degree in a STEM subject (or equivalent experience)
11. Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or working towards it)
12. Membership of a relevant professional institution
