Assistant Quantity Surveyor – Exciting Midlands Projects\n\nOur client is seeking an ambitious assistant quantity surveyor to join their growing team on projects across the East and West Midlands. This is a fantastic opportunity for an assistant quantity surveyor with at least 2 years’ experience to take their career to the next level, working directly with Senior Quantity Surveyors on a wide variety of exciting schemes.\n\nYou’ll be part of a business delivering projects ranging from £2 million to £30 million, across a diverse portfolio including:\n\n * \n\n Educational facilities (schools, STEM labs, sixth-form centres)\n\n * \n\n Healthcare buildings (diagnostic centres, endoscopy units, integrated care hubs)\n\n * \n\n Custodial and defence projects (MoJ sites, prison blocks, police HQs)\n\n * \n\n Commercial and mixed-use developments (offices, retail, innovation hubs)\n\nBecause some of these projects are on Ministry of Justice sites, security screening will be required.\n\nThe Role: Assistant Quantity Surveyor\n\nAs an assistant quantity surveyor, you’ll gain valuable hands-on experience while learning directly from senior colleagues. This role offers the perfect blend of responsibility and support, helping you build confidence in commercial management.\n\nResponsibilities of an Assistant Quantity Surveyor\n\n * \n\n Assist with preparing cost plans, budget estimates, and tender documents.\n\n * \n\n Carry out accurate quantity take-offs across a range of projects.\n\n * \n\n Support in assessing risks and exploring value engineering opportunities.\n\n * \n\n Contribute to interim valuations and final account preparation.\n\n * \n\n Assist in subcontractor and supplier procurement.\n\n * \n\n Monitor and report project costs to the Senior Quantity Surveyor.\n\n * \n\n Shadow and support Senior QSs in client and stakeholder meetings.\n\n * \n\n Help process variation orders and manage contract administration.\n\n * \n\n Assist in post-contract reviews and cost analysis.\n\n * \n\n Gain exposure to MoJ and security-cleared projects.\n\n * \n\n Ensure compliance with commercial processes and best practice.\n\n * \n\n Prepare clear and accurate financial documentation with guidance from the Senior QS.\n\nWhat We’re Looking For\n\n * \n\n At least 2 years’ experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or similar.\n\n * \n\n A strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes.\n\n * \n\n A keen eye for detail, with the confidence to take on responsibility.\n\n * \n\n Willingness to undergo security screening for certain projects.\n\n * \n\n Enthusiasm to work across a wide variety of project types and values.\n\nWhat’s on Offer\n\n * \n\n Salary: £28,000 – £34,000 depending on experience.\n\n * \n\n Exposure to projects worth £2m–£30m in the East and West Midlands.\n\n * \n\n Ongoing mentoring and support from Senior Quantity Surveyors.\n\n * \n\n Career development opportunities with a clear path to progression.\n\n * \n\n A supportive and professional environment where you’ll be encouraged to grow.\n\nIf you’re an assistant quantity surveyor with at least 2 years’ experience and you’re looking for the next step in your career, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.
