The role
Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role supports the Management Accountant and is primarily responsible for partner related work as well as providing advice and support in dealing with finance related queries and processing financial transactions in accordance with SRA Accounts rules and best practice.
The person
The ideal candidate will bring solid accounts and billing experience, preferably within a professional services environment. They should be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word, and have hands-on experience with online banking systems in a business context. A working knowledge of the Solicitors Accounts Rules, UK GAAP standards, and familiarity with Practice Management Systems is essential.
You will manage your workload confidently, communicate clearly, build strong relationships, and maintain a detail-focused, organised approach. You'll be a proactive team player, ready to adapt during busy periods.
The activities
* Partner Matters
* Provide financial information to partners and the Senior Partner.
* Manage profit distributions, drawings, loans, and investments.
* Calculate payments under individual partner arrangements and for ex-partners.
* Compliance
* Prepare SRA applications for dormant balances to charity.
* Support compliance tasks with the Finance Manager and Compliance Assistant.
* Charitable Trust
* Maintain records and assist with year-end accounts for the Mills & Reeve Charitable Trust.
* Advice & Query Management
* Advise fee earners and secretaries on accounting procedures.
* Respond to queries from clients, banks, and auditors.
* Act as the team expert on SRA Accounts Rules and legal accounting issues.
* Systems Administration
* Perform bank reconciliations and corrections.
* Administer matrimonial loan facilities and maintain accurate records.
* Input and maintain accounting data and time recorder records in PMS.
* Efficiency & Projects
* Suggest improvements to finance processes and technology use.
* Support implementation of new systems and firm-wide practices.
* General Duties
* Assist with finance operations during busy periods (e.g. month-end).
* Manage safe storage of accounting records.
* Carry out delegated tasks and attend meetings/training as required.
