Trainee PWP Hours of work: 37.5 hrs Salary: £28,392 per annum (NHS AFC Band 4) Base: Staffordshire Talking Therapies (Stafford or Cannock) Can you make Talking Matter? Our people are the driving force of our organisation, and we are committed to having a talented workforce who will make a positive impact on our communities About the role The post holder will work within the service, whilst undertaking a programme of training at University of Birmingham partnered with Aston University, where they will progressively learn how to deliver low intensity interventions, at high volume, with patients with anxiety and depression. You will receive excellent support in the role including extensive clinical and caseload supervision. You will offer a range of effective treatment and support available to people with common mental health problems such as depression and anxiety and extend this support to provide psychological intervention services to adults with an intellectual/learning disability who have concurrent common mental health problems. The post holder will split their time between university attendance and working in service, conducting assessments, and providing face to face and remote Low Intensity Interventions. Please note: It is a requirement of the role, that successful candidates seek BABCP accreditation following 6 months of relevant patient contact About you If you are a highly organised and motivated individual with a commitment to the NHS and patient care then we would welcome your application to study for the professional role of Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner. Successful candidates will be trained to deliver Low Intensity Psychological Interventions, which are the cornerstone of NHS Talking Therapies Services (formally known as IAPT). You will have experience of working with adults who have experienced common Mental Health Difficulties and will be able to inspire and engage people and have the ability to identify barriers and understand client needs, while possessing excellent motivational skills. You will have an understanding of working with adults with a variety of complex needs, and experience of working with mental health, physical health, learning needs and substance misuse issues would be an advantage for this post. Your knowledge of working within a community-based service is essential and will have equipped you with the relevant communication and interpersonal skills required to build good therapeutic relationships with clients You will be able to demonstrate high standards in written communication as well as excellent verbal communication including telephone skills. You will also be able to evaluate and put in place the skills and knowledge that you are provided with as part of the training and development opportunities included in this role. Successful applicants will hold: Qualifications suitable to their level of study Postgraduate Certificate (M Level) qualification route A degree in a relevant subject or equivalent (e.g., Registered Nurses and AHPs). Graduate Certificate route 2 Advanced Level GCEs (A-C) or equivalent (e.g., B-tec, GNVQ, NVQ Level 3 and 4). Relevant experience necessary for clinical practice Experience of working with adults who have suffered with a mental health problem. The expected start date is October 2026; further details to be given at the interview stage. The training programme consists of a minimum of 1 day teaching, undertake 1 day of self-directed study and provide 3 days of clinical practice per week offering assessment and low intensity treatment to patients presenting with common mental health problems such as depression and anxiety. The postholder will receive appropriate support throughout their training journey.
