Description Ranger Warden Grade band A £24,796 - £26,824 Permanent Working 36.5 Hours per week Do you have a passion for working with communities and helping people connect with nature? Birmingham Ranger Service plays a key role in caring for and championing conservation across the city’s parks, open spaces and nature reserves. As the UK’s first accredited Nature City, Birmingham is delivering its ambitious City of Nature 25-Year Plan, and our Parks and Greenspace Service is entering an exciting period of transformation and growth. Working at the heart of our communities, our Rangers help protect, enhance and bring Birmingham’s natural spaces to life for residents and visitors alike. We are looking to recruit a Ranger Warden to complement and complete the existing Ranger Service management team. About the Role As a Ranger Warden, you will be a visible, approachable presence across our parks and open spaces, helping to keep sites safe, welcoming and well cared for. You will support visitors, promote responsible use of our parks and play an important role in maintaining the quality and character of Birmingham’s outdoor spaces. This is an active and varied role for someone who enjoys working outdoors. You will support the Rangers in a range of duties, including engaging with the public, helping to organise activities and events, and contributing to the protection and stewardship of Birmingham’s natural spaces. You will also assist in the day-to-day supervision and upkeep of hub sites, including: • helping ensure compliance with park byelaws • carrying out routine health and safety checks • overseeing facilities and reporting issues where directed About you The post will support the day-to-day management, operation and promotion of Ranger Hubs as part of Birmingham’s city-wide Ranger Service. In this role, you will help create safe, welcoming and well-managed green spaces, while supporting conservation and wildlife across our parks and open spaces. You will also help strengthen links between the Ranger Service and key community partners, including Birmingham Open Spaces Forum and local Park Friends Groups, helping to support community involvement in the care and enjoyment of Birmingham’s parks. As well as a strong interest in conservation and wildlife, the ideal candidate will have: • experience working in public open spaces or similar outdoor environments • experience engaging with the public in a customer-facing role • strong organisational and administrative skills • effective communication and interpersonal skills • an understanding of health and safety in outdoor environments A full, valid driving licence is essential. There will be an occasional requirement for out of hours attendance at various events on parks. Ranger Service staff currently work a weekend rota. This requirement is fully covered in the rate of pay indicated. Ranger Service staff also work 8 out of 12 Bank Holiday days for which additional payment is claimed.
