I am working with a respected main contractor with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality projects across a range of sectors, including education, residential, commercial, heritage and public sector works. With a commitment to excellence, collaboration and sustainable construction, we are expanding our commercial team and seeking a motivated Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the successful delivery of upcoming projects.
They are currently looking for a AQS to work with a Senior Quantity Surveyor on new build £20m private school in South London.
The Role
As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will work closely with the project QS and Commercial Manager to support the financial and contractual management of projects from pre-construction through to final account. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their commercial skills within a supportive and forward-thinking contractor.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in the preparation of bills of quantities, cost estimates and tender documents
* Support the management of subcontractor procurement, enquiries and evaluations
* Measure and value work on site, including assisting with monthly valuations
* Track project costs, variations and commercial risks
* Contribute to cost reports, cashflows and forecasting
* Support contract administration, including payment notices and change control
* Liaise with site teams, subcontractors and clients to ensure accurate commercial reporting
* Maintain strong knowledge of industry standards, construction processes and relevant legislation
About You
* Studying towards or recently completed a degree/HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
* Previous experience with a main contractor or subcontractor (placement or junior role) advantageous
* Strong numerical, analytical and communication skills
* Proficient with Microsoft Excel and measurement software
* A proactive approach, willingness to learn and the ability to work well within a team
* Full UK driving licence preferred
