We are recruiting a Deputy Headteacher at Caerphilly County Borough Council

Location: Maesycwmmer Primary School

Start Date: 1st September 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter (pending safeguarding clearance)

We pay an attractive salary of £56,723 - £62,612 and offer access to training and development opportunities.

Applications are invited from dynamic, experienced and suitably qualified Teachers for the post of Deputy Head Teacher of this successful Primary School. The school provides education for children between the ages of three and eleven.

The school is located in the heart of the close-knit village of Maesycwmmer, within the Caerphilly County Borough. The school benefits from a semi-rural setting, surrounded by attractive countryside while remaining well connected to nearby towns such as Ystrad Mynach and Caerphilly, with good transport links to Cardiff and the wider South Wales region. This unique location supports a strong sense of community and provides rich opportunities for outdoor learning and community engagement.

The Estyn Inspection Report in February 2025 states that: Maesycwmmer Primary is a highly inclusive, happy, safe and successful school. There are strong and purposeful working relationships across the school and this enables pupils to learn in a caring and positive learning environment. Teachers and support staff know pupils well and plan a range of engaging activities that support their well-being and learning needs successfully.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and a comprehensive screening process will be undertaken on all successful applicants. This will include an enhanced check with the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Under the Education (Wales) Act 2014 all Learning Support staff in schools, (which includes the post referred to herein), must be registered with the Education Workforce Council for Wales (EWC) from 1 April 2016.

Your employment will be subject to satisfactory documentary evidence of registration, and continuing registration, as a Learning Support Assistant with the EWC.

Information on how to register with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) can be found on the EWC website. It is your responsibility to ensure you register and continue to register as part of your terms and conditions of employment.

Shortlisting will take place on: Monday 2nd March

Interviews will be held on: Thursday 19th March at Ty Penallta CCBC

All shortlisted candidates will be invited to tour the school and be interviewed by the Pupil Leadership Team on Friday 6th March.

Lesson observations will take place on week beginning 9th March
