About the Department
The operating department at Friarage Hospital currently has 5 operating theatres. In 2025, a new Surgical Hub will open with 6 main theatres and 2 minor operation rooms, providing services in General Surgery, Gynaecology, Urology, Orthopaedics, Plastics, ENT, Maxillofacial, Ophthalmic, Pain, and Spinal Surgery.
Role Expectations
You will need to be an active member of the multidisciplinary team, demonstrating essential skills to lead your team. The department is committed to staff development and offers opportunities to enhance your leadership skills. Staff may be required to work across sites at the main tertiary centre, James Cook University Hospital.
Leadership and Development
South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides leadership and improvement training to all new staff, including:

This training supports understanding of NHS leadership, promotes Trust values, and develops leadership effectiveness. After completing four and a half days of training, further opportunities such as in-house courses, bitesize programmes, and leadership apprenticeships at levels 3, 5, and 7 are available.
