Workshop Controller
Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced and highly organised Workshop Controller to lead and coordinate the day-to-day operation of our busy service workshop. You will be responsible for managing a team of technicians, ensuring high levels of efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction, while maximising workshop profitability and productivity.
As the link between the service advisors and the technical team, your leadership will be critical in ensuring work is allocated effectively, jobs are completed on time, and all processes are carried out to the highest standard.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage the daily workflow and allocation of jobs in the workshop to ensure maximum productivity and efficiency.
* Supervise and support a team of technicians and apprentices, providing technical guidance and performance feedback.
* Monitor job progress and ensure work is completed to manufacturer and company standards within agreed timescales.
* Liaise closely with service advisors and parts departments to ensure smooth coordination of jobs and customer updates.
* Conduct quality control checks and road tests as needed to maintain high workmanship standards.
* Oversee adherence to health and safety, compliance, and environmental policies in the workshop.
* Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) such as technician efficiency, hours sold, and rework rates.
* Support the Aftersales or Service Manager in driving profitability and improving workshop performance.
* Help identify training needs and support the development of the technical team.
Key Skills & Experience:
* Proven experience as a Workshop Controller, Senior Technician, or similar role in a franchised dealership or independent workshop.
* Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a team.
* Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong technical understanding of vehicle systems, diagnostics, and repair processes.
* Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines without compromising quality.
* Competent in using dealership management systems (DMS) and job allocation tools.
* A full UK driving licence is essential.
Desirable:
* Manufacturer experience and accreditations.
* NVQ Level 3 in Light Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent qualification.
* Experience with EV and hybrid vehicle technology.
* Previous training in workshop health & safety or COSHH compliance.
