Offender health is an exciting and challenging specialism with a significant Public Health and Long-Term Conditions agenda. Significantly, the management of acute, long-term, and substance misuse presentations represents a large cohort of these patients and requires an understanding of primary care.

Main duties of the job

The Practice Development Nurse will work within their designated service(s), working closely with the Head of Healthcare and the Regional Head of Operations, to plan, implement, and evaluate staff development. They will coordinate and embed learning initiatives to ensure staff competency and capability in their roles.

They will also identify learning needs, plan and deliver training, and evaluate staff competence to align with local and national priorities.

Job description


Job responsibilities

The Practice Development Nurse will:

* Promote high standards of care through clinical expertise and credibility.
* Create a positive learning environment supporting staff development.
* Facilitate induction, education, and ongoing professional development for all nursing staff.
* Work with teams to implement practice development initiatives.
* Translate organizational priorities into service-specific actions.
* Support preceptorship for newly qualified nurses with development plans and regular reviews.
* Ensure staff development aligns with national and local workforce strategies, focusing on training and quality.


Person Specification


Education and Training


Essential

* Registered Healthcare Professional (e.g., Nurse with NMC registration).
* Management qualification or equivalent experience.
* Postgraduate professional development, including evidence-based care delivery.


Knowledge and Experience


Essential

* Management experience in complex healthcare environments with multidisciplinary teams.
* Knowledge of regulatory compliance (e.g., CQC, Regulation 28).
* Experience leading teams and implementing organizational change.
* Experience working with vulnerable groups and complex care needs.
* Leading clinical governance initiatives.
* Building effective stakeholder relationships.
* Understanding confidentiality and data protection.


Desirable

* Knowledge of offender health policies.
* Experience managing offender or secure unit care.
* Research experience.


Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This role requires a DBS check due to working with vulnerable populations.


UK Registration
