Leading Housing Association is looking to recruit a Financial Accountant on a permanent basis. This is a technical accounting role focusing on fixed asset and capital accounting.
Job Description
This role will lead and manage all fixed asset and balance sheet accounting, providing technical expertise to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, enhance financial reporting, and improve operational processes. You will support the Finance team technically and manage two staff members.
1. Manage monthly Balance Sheet reporting for group and subsidiary companies, including fixed assets (additions and disposals), capitalisation, grants, and depreciation. Lead a team of two, providing coaching and performance management.
2. Provide guidance on financial compliance, processes, and policies to the Finance team and wider business. Prepare accounting policy papers aligned with standards, review changes to the Capital Funding Guide, and communicate complex issues clearly.
3. Ensure control processes maintain the integrity of accounting records through regular reconciliations, including between asset and accounting databases.
4. Assist in preparing Annual Financial Statements with responsibilities for impairment reviews, fixed asset notes, leases, and subsidiary financials. Act as the main contact for external auditors regarding balance sheet and fixed asset information, and handle related regulatory returns.
5. Manage budgeting and reforecasting for asset sales, fixed assets, capitalisation, depreciation, RCGF, and DPF, working closely with the Senior Accountant.
6. Support audit processes by providing necessary information to internal and external auditors.
7. Handle tax computations, ensuring they are prepared and submitted correctly. Provide tax advice and liaise with external advisors as needed.
8. Monitor operational controls, update procedural documentation, and test controls regularly.
9. Assist with financial systems implementation, including upgrades and testing.
The Successful Applicant
* Proficient in numerical analysis and interpretation.
* Experience with financial database ledger systems.
* Knowledge of current financial reporting standards.
* Experience in financial accounting functions.
* Understanding of sector-specific financial reporting standards.
* Knowledge of Corporation Tax and VAT regulations.
* Strong reconciliation skills.
* Understanding of capital appraisals and fixed asset accounting.
