Senior Associate Director HV Cable System Design Engineer – Jacobs
Location: Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom
Responsibilities
* Develop HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept and detailed design, conduct design reviews, and provide estimation, site supervision and support as required.
* Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
* Prepare plant and equipment technical specifications, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, and technical and progress reports.
* Ensure correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions, and attend and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.
* Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating, TMF and EMF calculations, sheath‑induced voltage calculations, and other relevant analyses.
* Conduct design reviews and verification of design.
* Ensure all project designs comply with CDM regulations, relevant legislation, and company procedures.
* Assist with temporary works design schemes.
* Maintain good working relationships with clients, designers, teams, and the supply chain.
* Ensure drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction; formally request any missing information in a timely manner.
* Ensure inspection and test plans are completed as required by the PMP/specification, including checks of dimension accuracy and quality.
* Support factory inspection tests (FAT).
* Establish and promote best practice in health, safety, and environmental matters in conjunction with the SHQE department.
* Advise engineers on setting‑out methods and techniques.
* Prepare written risk assessments and method statements for the control of the works.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Power Engineering.
* Previous experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector.
* Extensive experience in a cable‑related role supporting FEED design and/or detailed design.
* Able to manage and lead HV/EHV cable designs at all project stages.
* Experienced user of CYMCAP for cable system design support.
* Experience working at EHV transmission voltages.
* Experience in designing HV and EHV cable systems for both HVAC and HVDC systems.
* Familiarity with National Grid and DNO standards and processes.
