The Opportunity
My client, a leading energy provider, is seeking a Head of Press Office to lead its high-performing media team and oversee reactive communications that protect and strengthen the organisation’s reputation.
This is a senior role at the centre of the UK’s energy conversation—advising leaders on reputational issues, managing high-risk events, and building strong media relationships to ensure the organisation is positioned as a trusted voice in the energy transition.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the company’s press office, managing 24/7 media monitoring and response.
* Handle reputational issues and crisis communications, advising senior leaders.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with national journalists and key outlets.
* Manage news flow, horizon scanning, and proactive media campaigns.
* Support thought leadership opportunities and the corporate/financial calendar.
* Collaborate across Corporate Affairs to deliver aligned, integrated communications.
* Manage and develop a Press Officer and oversee out-of-hours media support.
The ideal candidate will bring:
* Strong understanding of the UK media landscape, with established journalist networks.
* Proven crisis communications and issues management experience.
* Ability to advise senior leadership with sound judgment and insight.
* Track record of delivering impactful external communications across media, digital, and social channels.
* Collaborative and resilient mindset, able to thrive in a fast-moving, regulated environment.
* Knowledge of the energy or other regulated sectors (desirable).
* Experience in unionised environments (desirable).
