Job Description

Job Description

Based at Bruce House, Wellate, Arbroath.
This job is workstyle 4 - Hybrid.

You will have the opportunity to benefit from our flexible and agile working practices. This means you will work from a variety of locations, working from council buildings, working in service user’s locations and site visits and you can work from home to best suit your work, meetings and collaboration.

Angus Council is seeking a motivated and practical Community Housing Assistant to support the smooth running, safety and day‑to‑day operation of our community housing environments. This role plays an important part in helping us deliver high‑quality housing services that support safe, well‑maintained and welcoming communities.

You will be responsible for carrying out minor maintenance tasks, routine building checks and fire alarm testing, ensuring that our properties remain compliant with safety standards. A key part of the role involves supporting residents through a person‑centred approach, offering help and reassurance where needed, and contributing to a positive living environment. You will also act as a keyholder, assisting with building access and security, as well as maintaining accurate written records and using basic IT systems to support service delivery.

The role requires someone able to work independently as well as part of the wider Community Housing team. You should bring a flexible approach, the ability to use your initiative, and confidence in meeting deadlines and targets. Strong communication and customer care skills are essential, alongside good numeracy and basic IT proficiency. Experience of carrying out minor repairs, undertaking fire alarm testing, managing basic stock control and engaging positively with the public will be important, as will previous keyholder responsibilities. You should also be comfortable driving a transit‑type vehicle as part of the role.

You will need a sound understanding of Health & Safety guidelines, including COSHH, Fire Safety, Legionella and Manual Handling, as well as a basic awareness of council housing services, including housing for older people. A full, current driving licence is essential, along with the ability to work evenings or weekends when required. You must also be willing to undertake relevant training and be prepared to work with noxious materials when necessary.

If you are practical, people‑focused and committed to supporting safe, sustainable communities, we would welcome your application.

Internal and external applications on a secondment basis will be considered. You must have the approval of your line manager/organisation.

This job is temporary until no later than 31 August 2026.

Please note interviews will be held - to be confirmed.
