1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Long-Term
We are currently seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant for a long-term position within a primary school. This role will involve providing consistent support to a pupil with additional needs, with a strong focus on phonics and early reading development.
This is a full-time, long-term opportunity within one school, offering stability and the chance to build a strong working relationship with both the pupil and staff team.
Role responsibilities include:
Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with Special Educational Needs
Supporting phonics learning using structured approaches (such as daily phonics sessions)
Assisting with early reading, writing, and literacy development
Adapting classroom activities to suit the pupil’s individual learning needs
Supporting the pupil’s attention, engagement, and behaviour during lessons
Working closely with the class teacher to deliver targeted interventions
Helping to implement strategies from EHCPs or support plans
Monitoring progress, particularly in phonics and reading developmentThe ideal candidate will have:
Experience working with children with SEN, particularly in a primary setting
Knowledge or experience of phonics programmes (e.g. Read Write Inc, Letters and Sounds, or similar)
A patient, calm, and nurturing approach
Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
A proactive and flexible attitude
An Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain oneThis role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting early literacy and helping children build confidence in their reading skills.
