Responsibilities
* Technical environmental and ecological lead on projects
* Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, planning conditions and associated documents; help reduce risks and delays
* Supervise contractors and ensure compliance with protected species licence requirements and environmental protection measures
* Mentor and train junior team members
* Conduct Extended Phase 1 habitat/UKHabs surveys and protected species surveys
* Formulate mitigation proposals and habitat creation schemes
* Act as Ecological Clerk of Works
* Prepare technical reports for planning submissions
* Contribute to Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and EIAs
* Provide ecological input into Environmental Impact Assessments
What good looks like
* Degree in a relevant scientific or environmental discipline
* Knowledge of ecology, legislation, survey techniques and the planning process
* Experience of ecological surveys and the environmental sector
* Ecological site survey experience (protected species surveys, PEA/Phase 1 habitat surveys/UKHabs)
* Level 2 Bat licensed holder or close to achieving
* Experience with bat recording analysis software
* Ecological Clerk of Works experience
* Experience delivering projects in a commercially competitive environment
* Stakeholder engagement with Wildlife Trusts, Environmental Health Officers, Natural England, Heritage England, Environment Agency and Lead Local Flood Authorities
* Data collation and interpretation experience
* Strong report writing and proposal skills
* Self-motivated, able to work autonomously and as part of a team
* Ability to prioritise tasks and manage own workload and that of others
* Experience checking reports and attention to detail
* Approachable, proactive, ambitious and well organized
* Membership of CIEEM or equivalent
* Full clean UK driving licence
What else looks good
* Producing Protected Species Survey Licences (particularly bat)
* People management experience and willingness to mentor junior staff
* Full membership of CIEEM or working towards it
* Experience in linear infrastructure and property development projects
* GIS experience

About The Role
You will join the CGS Environmental Team, working remotely and serving a range of clients including highways, local authorities, housing associations, infrastructure and private sector projects. The role covers the Midlands region. The Senior Ecologist will work on multiple projects, including some field-based work (ecological surveys, asset surveys and ecological clerk of works).
