We are seeking an experienced Conveyancing Paralegal / Case Handler to join our client's busy, client-focused residential property team. The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload of residential property transactions from initial instruction through to completion, provide excellent client care, maintain compliant and audit-ready files, and support fee earners with efficient case progression. Key responsibilities:
* Manage a caseload of residential property matters including sales, purchases, remortgages and transfers of equity; handle matters from instruction to completion in line with firm procedures and client expectations and ensuring timely progression throughout.
* Provide clear, professional and timely communications to clients, lenders, estate agents, other solicitors, surveyors and third parties; update clients regularly and manage expectations throughout the transaction.
* Draft, review and finalise standard legal documentation including sale and purchase contracts, transfer deeds, completion statements and post-completion documents; ensure accuracy, consistency with precedents and timely execution.
* Carry out detailed file management and case progression tasks: open and close matters, maintain electronic and paper files, record accurate attendance notes and ensure documents are saved correctly within the case management system.
* Undertake client identity checks and perform anti‑money laundering (AML) and source of funds checks in accordance with firm policy and regulatory requirements; escalate any issues promptly and maintain audit-ready records.
* Liaise with lenders to obtain mortgage offers, satisfy conditions and handle mortgage pack requirements; prepare completion monies statements and manage financial reconciliations including client and office account transactions in line with SRA rules.
* Coordinate exchange and completion processes, prepare requisitions on title, progress searches and replies, and ensure timely registration of title and post-completion formalities.
* Support billing and trust accounting processes by recording time and disbursements accurately, assisting with fee notes and providing information required for invoicing and matter budgeting.
* Identify opportunities to streamline conveyancing workflows, update precedents and support the rollout of practice management technology and other process improvements.
* Provide assistance and guidance to more junior team members, sharing best practice, supporting training and promoting compliance across the team.
Key skills and experience required:
* Proven experience in residential conveyancing or property work within a law firm, conveyancing practice or regulated environment; ability to manage a varied caseload with minimal supervision.
* Good working knowledge of the conveyancing process including searches, mortgage transactions, land registration and post-completion formalities.
* Strong client care and communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, lenders, estate agents and external contacts.
* High level of accuracy and attention to detail when preparing and reviewing legal documents, financial information and case notes.
* Familiarity with AML requirements, client identity and source of funds checks and trust accounting compliance.
* Proficient IT skills, including experience with Microsoft Office>

* Previous conveyancing/paralegal experience required; relevant legal qualification or formal conveyancing training preferred.
