Job Title: Senior Planner
Salary: £95,000
Division: UK Construction
Location: London (Covering projects across SE England)
Reporting To: Contracts Director
Construction South is part of the UK Construction business and includes the Wales and West, and the South East. Projects on average range between £5 - £50 million and are primarily based in the Public Sector with some projects in the Private Sector. Sectors include Leisure, Justice, Defence, Education, Health and Commercial offices.
Role Purpose
As a Senior Planner you will play a pivotal role in providing professional planning services for proposals and projects within our Construction division, focusing on MOJ projects. You'll collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, offering expert advice and guidance to ensure the success of our projects. Building strategic relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers, and contractors will be at the core of your responsibilities.
Key Accountabilities
Provide total planning service for proposals and projects within a specific business unit or allocated to live project(s) to work at site or office location.
Ensure company best practice and protocols are adhered to.
Leads programme-related meetings and forums for planning staff within the specific division.
Provide input to maintain divisions planning database and input into the Regional database.
Challenge and review processes to enhance planning best practice that can aide and improve performance and consistency across the business unit and wider planning community.
Provide support and comfort to all echelons of management that planning related risk is mitigated, adopting a strategic and proactive approach to highlighting and resolving issues and taking an active part in ensuring ongoing review and continuous improvement.
Form robust links with all key stakeholders by working closely with senior management and functional directors.
Ensure that planning standards become a key strategic advantage to the business unit and that is being a distinct competitive advantage both internally and externally.
Review projects that have deviated from plan and provide advice on original plan and strategy, subsequent cause and effect and contribute to decisions as to best way forward.
Attend and play a lead role in preparation and participation in formal meetings and presentations
Develop relationships with consultant, suppliers and contractors.
May be introduced as a specialist advisor to clients (consultancy role).
Represent business unit in Planning forums and play a key role in the future training and development of the planning function.
Skills & Experience
Experience as a trainee planner/assistant planner OR relevant experience on arrival.
In-depth knowledge of the pre-construction and construction process
Has in-depth, specialist knowledge over a wide number of areas.
Experience or exposure to forensic planning techniques and contract law
Has in-depth knowledge of the whole project process from inception through consultant scheme, and detail design/production, procurement, shop drawings and approvals, lead-in, construction, furniture and migration.
Possesses conceptual planning abilities.
Wealth of construction technology knowledge and experience
Conversant in value management and exponent of buildability
Leads meetings in programme related matters.
Develops strategic relationships with consultants and specialists
Expert in planning related software literacy and solutions for programmes/schedules etc.
Has ability to trouble shoot and act as” radar” early warning system.
