Job Description
Purpose of the position
The Clerk of Works / Contracts Manager oversees procurement, quality, and compliance of works based on workplace transport assessments across Network properties and Hubs throughout the UK. The role ensures works are executed according to specifications, drawings, reports, and relevant regulations.
This national role covers approximately 90 sites and involves extensive travel.
Responsibilities
Tender documentation
* Prepare a quantified schedule of remedial works based on approved assessments for consistency across all sites.
* Assess tenders and recommend contractor appointments.
* Instruct successful contractors and notify unsuccessful ones.
Site Inspections & Quality Assurance
* Conduct regular site inspections to monitor quality.
* Ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and regulations.
* Report defects or non-conformances promptly.
* Verify materials match specifications and are stored correctly.
Contract Management
* Oversee construction contracts and adherence to obligations and timelines.
* Review progress reports and payments.
* Manage contract variations and resolve disputes.
Record Keeping & Documentation
* Maintain detailed records and reports.
* Organize documentation for audits.
* Provide bi-weekly progress updates.
Communication & Collaboration
* Act as a key contact for contractors and stakeholders.
* Facilitate communication and conduct site meetings.
* Provide technical guidance as needed.
Health & Safety
* Ensure site safety compliance.
* Manage contractor safety and site rules.
* Report hazards and participate in safety meetings.
Project Handover
* Oversee snagging and defect rectification.
* Ensure smooth project handovers with proper documentation.
Qualifications
* Knowledge of building regulations and quality control.
* Understanding of construction contracts.
* Ability to read drawings and specifications.
* Attention to detail and organizational skills.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Independent and team working abilities.
* Proficiency in relevant software.
* Certifications like CIOB, ICWCI, IOSH are desirable.
* Valid driver’s license.
