The Practice Development Lead within the Wider Workforce Team is a proactive role-model and senior member of the Institute of Care Excellence faculty, who leads on practice development and the professional development of nursing/midwifery staff across NUH to ensure the successful delivery of the N&M Strategy.
As a key leadership role within the Institute of N&M Care Excellence, works to promote, establish and facilitate the delivery of the priority objectives of the Institute.
Provides leadership, advice and support, fostering a learning culture which values high quality patient care, evidence based practice, research and innovation.
Works in partnership with the Institute Clinical Leads/ Divisional senior nurses/ Matrons/ ward/department managers to ensure the delivery of the N&M Strategy and implementation of effective strategies to enhance staff satisfaction, staff engagement, improved staff retention and multi-disciplinary team working to achieve agreed, common goals/outcomes. Ensures the highest standards of education, research, and clinical care are in place and in collaboration with the trust and divisional senior nursing team implements,
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have line management responsibilities for the Wider Workforce Team. They will work closely with with the Senior Nurse for Practice Education and the Clinical Lead for Professional Development and Education, to deliver the wider workforce portfolio.
The PDL will be a strong clinical leader, easily identifiable, highly visible and accessible to corporate and divisional education leads, divisional nurses, senior midwifery leaders and practice supervisors and assessors. They will have a particular responsibility to liaise with HEI partners and clinical teams to appropriately share and make decisions on learner assessment and progression, particularly apprentices. The PDL will work with the ADN and the Clinical Lead to respond effectively to concerns and complaints about public protection and learner performance in learning environments.
They will support service improvement by responding to the learning needs of the individuals. The post holder will ensure the active involvement of education leads, senior nurses and midwives in the way practice learning and clinical support are developed, delivered and evaluated.

Person Specification
Training & Qualifications
* Current level one NMC registration
* Diploma or degree in nursing studies
* Relevant post-basic study e.g. specialist pathway Have a suitable post graduate Teaching & Assessing Qualification e.g. Practice teacher, PGCert
* Practice supervisor and assessor
* Evidence of Master's level study
* Formal leadership and management training/ Research training/experience.
* ECDL
Experience
* Experienced in acute care settings at band 5 and 6 and experience of leading the implementation of complex practice education strategies across multiple and diverse clinical teams.
* Leads and acts as a role model in clinical practice and experienced at leading and supervising a team.
* Experienced preceptor with evidence of clinical leadership skills and experienced supervisor and assessor of pre-registration students, newly qualified nurses and other multi professional learners, experience in providing feedback.
* Demonstrate involvement and leadership in enhancing practice education environment and developing new staff.
* Ability to manage the clinical area efficiently and effectively.
* Ability to convey sensitive information in an empathetic manner to apprentices, student nursing associates, nursing associates, newly qualified nurses and midwives, students/learners, patients, relative/carers and staff.
* Recent or current experience within practice education across different specialities.
* Demonstrate an involvement in link nurse, or project work.
* Audit or research within the clinical area.
